Repairing Ruptures Workshop

What to expect?

Save your relationships by learning how to navigate conflict and repair harm.

As a human, you will unintentionally cause harm because of miscommunication, misinterpretation, assumptions, or blank spots. When this happens, society resorts to shame, blame and punishment, but the cause of the harm is rarely investigated. So, you have learned to avoid conflicts and evade ruptures.

In addition, our hierarchical, dominating society allows those with greater privilege to deflect responsibility and avoid accountability by blaming those with less privilege. So we learn to avoid conflict by being polite and forgiving to those who hold greater power, privilege, and authority over us. Therefore, ruptures are rarely repaired, and we carry with us a backlog of resentments, shame, and wounds.

Now that you have the skills of listening and identifying your needs, the practice of self-compassion and self-forgiveness, and the  foundation of respect and trust amongst workshop members, you can begin to examine and discuss the differences between
SHAME vs. REGRET
BLAME vs. RESPONSIBILITY
EXCUSES vs. ACCOUNTABILITY

Knowledge and Skills

Practice self-compassion & self-forgiveness with shame, blame, and deflection.

Learn the differences between shame & regret, blame & responsibility, excuses & accountability.

Explore shame gently and with resolve so that regret and remorse can emerge.

Identify blame in order to return to sender or set it aside so that you take responsibility only for your actions.

Let go of perfectionism and the excuses to avoid culpability so that you can genuinely offer a heart-felt apology that begins to repairs the harm you have caused.

What is a real apology?

An apology begins with the acknowledgement of the harm done; it centers the victim.

We use our emotional  awareness to empathize and  understand the impact of your actions on the recipient.

This will activate remorse (instead of shame & defensiveness) which will motivate you to take accountability and identify actions that will prevent repetition of the problematic behavior.

The final step is a request for  forgiveness which the recipient may or may not be able to offer.

A heart-felt apology together with meaningful action helps to repair the harm we have caused.

These skills lay the foundations for rupture repair & rebuilding trust. These same steps also help discern whether your actions have caused harm or if blame and/or shame is directed to you.

This is how we deepen our intimacy, grow our trust, and further settle in to belonging and respect with ourselves and each other.

Did these workshops meet your expectations ?  I didn’t have any expectations to be very honest. I was always wondering and was eager to learn what teaching can help me with parenting my children…  As days, weeks passed 1 realised that wow this is really new knowledge to me, and I was and still am happy by the learning I have gained

What did you find beneficial ? Practicing, reflecting on posts or issues [within the study group] added so much value.
