My exploration of trauma began with birth trauma because that is what I was observing with my students and clients ... and myself.

I am deeply grateful to my teachers for their generous sharing of knowledge and wisdom that have educated and guided me along my circuitous path of curiousity and passion. Because of them, I am able to offer you a wide range of services.

However, I cannot vouch for their commitment to learning about and divesting from supremacism (colonialism, patriarchy, capitalism, wellness industrial complex, racism, genderism, ageism etc.).

Please use your discernment, intuition, and common sense if you are seeking training or support. Ensure that their values are aligned with yours.

Understanding Trauma

I started to recognize a pattern between the birth experience and my students & clients  capacity to mother.  I wanted to learn more about it. Some of my knowledge came from my own research, some was covered in the yoga & doula trainings.

Then I learned about how previous trauma can impact pregnancy and birth.
Then I learned about cPTSD and ACEs.
Then I learned about intergenerational trauma.  And systemic trauma….

So I am enrolled in the birth psychology training so that I have a solid foundational background.

Alongside trauma, I also learned about resilience and the practices that support resilience as I navigated my own trauma and explored ways to metabolize it into growth and resilience.

An important fact to keep in mind, is that trauma has been ever present in humanity and each culture and tradition have their  own ways to process  individual and collective trauma.  Healing is innate in living systems.

What has happened is that structures and systems of dominance (patriarchy, colonialism, capitalism) has disrupted community and the transmission of these practices.  However, we have  the wisdom within, and the land holds this wisdom to. Together, we can remember and heal.

Below is a link to a short article on trauma.

Trauma-informed Yoga

It took 4 heart-centered teachers to hold space and to share how provide yoga that supports humans navigating trauma.  This training was based on their on-the-ground experience of delivering yoga to the refugees in Jordan. However, it is applicable to every-day, every-yoga class, every-human interaction.

Trauma In Addiction & Chronic Illness

This weekend workshop with Dr. Maté was a remarkable experience because so many things fell  into place.  He presented a compassionate perspective of addiction & chronic illness that integrated the science with the lived experiences of his clients.  it was an invitation to re-examine our lives and question our beliefs so that we could being to connect with our wounds and trauma so that we can begin to heal.

Suicide Prevention & Altered States

“Project LETS is a national grassroots organization and movement led by and for folks with lived experience of mental illness/madness, Disability, trauma, & neurodivergence.” LETS stands for Let’s End The Stigma.  They provide education and peer support training so that humans in distress can receive non-carceral, compassionate care while navigating challenging times.  These two workshops were taught by people with lived experience who shared their perspectives and insights into their challenges.  Hearing their stories helped me better understand how to  support people experiencing distress.

Birth Psychology

I was aware that I was pregnant even before we could do a pregnancy test.  As a vegetarian, it was my inexplicable craving for meat that informed me that I was eating for two.

Early on in my pregnancy, I came across Thomas Verny’s book “The Secret Life of the Unborn Child”. And I loved it. I cherished the opportunity of developing our relationship as soon as possible.

16 years later, there is so much more evidence from different fields of science such as epigenetics, biodynamic embryology, developmental neurosciences, and prenatal psychology to support that this earliest relationship are “formative for both babies and parents, and tend to establish patterns of intimacy and sociality for life.”

In 2019, I was excited to begin this training so that I can support parents in developing and nurturing this essential relationship. However, I paused this training because I wanted to be able to address the underlying patriarchal and supremacist foundations.  While these foundations are inherent in all academic institutions and in society, I wanted to be able to identify and discern these perspectives so that I can honor the humanity of my clients and be respectful of their autonomy and their cultural traditions. I have now resumed this training in 2024.
